What Our Schools Think Of Us

  • Joe Croft – Head of Physical Education – Coombe Hill Junior School, Kingston upon Thames

Through funding of the KSSP our school were delighted to receive quality hockey coaching from a top league player, for free. Twenty seven children quickly signed up for the course and were all from a range of abilities. The coach, William Fulker, instantly gained the children’s respect and enthusiasm through a range of coaching styles, small games and general interaction with the children.
The Quicksticks set that he brought with him allowed the children with little previous hockey experience to quickly gain the basic understanding of the game, while pushing the more experienced players. Throughout the weeks the children experienced and developed their game of hockey and for five of them it led to them joining a hockey club.

As well as this all the children got to partake in a hockey festival/tournament where they went to Surbiton hockey club and played a range of games against other schools. This not only consolidated their skills, it sparked new ideas and lead to improved teamwork and a chance to experience competitive games. Overall the sessions were fun, well taught and engaging for children of all abilities.

  • Jane Stapleton – SSCo for Tiffin Girls and Tiffin

As a school and SSP we have been working with Surbiton Hockey Club for three years and their school provision, availability, organisation and reliability has been outstanding. They provide Tiffin Girls with a quality coach on a weekly basis, to work with our lower school girls of all abilities during a lunchtime club. The numbers that attend are continually high, with a minimum of 24 girls. The sessions offer girls the chance to develop basic skills to working on team tactics.

The coaches are passionate about hockey and without their input our level of hockey would be limited due to lack of staffing. They are able to support the PE department and are flexible with our needs and work hard to fit around our requirements.
At Tiffin Boys we offer Hockey practice after school on a weekly basis and Surbiton HC have excelled themselves above and beyond the call of duty organizing this club, by hosting the sessions at their own ground to facilitate Tiffin Boys who do not have any hockey facilities. Many of the pupils who are coached and influenced by their positive experience go on to join the Club out of school. We are extremely grateful to the funding they receive to work within our schools and we look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.
